Świat strukturyzują dyskursy, mające określony, własny podmiot i zbiór pojęć, prawd oraz rozpoznań decydujących o tym, co jest, a co nie jest rzeczywiste. W świecie, w którym panuje dyskurs patriarchalny podmiotem jest mężczyzna, a więc przeszłość opowiadana jest na sposób męski, przyszłość wyobrażana w męskich kategoriach, męski jest język oraz to, co dozwolone, słuszne, prawdziwe i możliwe. To, co nie mieści się w obrębie patriarchalnej opowieści o świecie, wkładane jest między bajki. W jaki sposób w takim świecie, będąc podmiotem niemęskim i/lub nieheteronormatywnym, mówić i samostanowić o sobie, wyrażać siebie i swoje zdanie, snuć marzenia i konstruować feministyczno-queerowe przyszłości?
Jedną z odpowiedzi jest język bajki i bliskich jej legendy, bujdy, bredni, tego, co nierealne, wyobrażone lub kontrfaktyczne, a także feministyczna spekulacyjna fabuła. To, co nie wpisuje się w “racjonalną” i jedynie prawdziwą, patriarchalną wizję świata, ma wobec niej potencjał wywrotowy. Hrabina Marie Catherine d’Aulnoy pisząc w XVII w. Les Contes des Fées, krytykowała dwór francuski, panujące na nim zwyczaje i konwencje, które odbierały kobietom sprawczość i wolność. Odzyskana dla feminizmu figura wiedźmy stała się w latach 70-tych matronką amerykańskich grup W.I.T.C.H. czy francuskiego feministycznego magazynu Sorcières. Wróżka czuwała nad queerowymi RadicalFaeries. Sfera tego, co zdyskredytowane jako nieprawdziwe, w rękach kobiet i queerów – podmiotów deprecjonowanych, które podobnie jak sama fantazja nie pasują do patriarchalnej wizji świata, może stanowić przepełnioną potencjalnościami przestrzeń wolności i siły.
Podczas styczniowego Seminarium Feministycznego rozważymy jakiego rodzaju możliwości opracowywania nowych przyszłości oferuje nieprawda, porozmawiać o wyobrażeniach, które stanowić mogą ostoję czy być laboratoriami dla nowych myśli i języków oraz rezerwuarami alternatywnych form życia, tożsamości i funkcjonowania w świecie. Będziemy pytać o rolę fantazji w procesie odzyskiwania – queerowania i herstoryzowania – przeszłości oraz poddawania krytyce obecnych, krzywdzących i jednostronnych, sposobów nazywania, odczuwania i narratywizowania świata, opowiadania tego, czego powiedzieć głośno nie wolno lub nie da się wyrazić “racjonalnym” językiem oraz o figury fantastyczne, które stały się narzędziami emancypacji kobiet i queerów.

The world is structured by discourses that have their own specified subject and a collection of concepts, truths and observations that determine what is real and what is not. In a world dominated by patriarchal discourse, the subject is a man, and therefore the past is told in a male way, the future is imagined in male categories, language is male, and so are things that are allowed, right, true and possible. What falls outside the scope of the patriarchal story of the world is treated like a fairy tale. As a non-male and/or non-heteronormative subject in such a world, how can one talk about and self-determine oneself, express oneself and one’s opinions, dream and construct feminist-queer futures?
One of the answers is the language of fairy tale and its kindred legend, tall story, nonsense, the unreal, the imagined or counterfactual, and feminist speculative storyline. Everything that does not match the “rational” and only true, patriarchal vision of the world carries a subversive potential in relation to that vision. Writing Les Contes des Fées in the 17th century, Countess Marie Catherine d’Aulnoy criticised the French royal court, its customs and conventions, which deprived women of agency and liberty. Reclaimed for feminism, the witch figure in the 1970s became a patroness of the American W.I.T.C.H. groups and the feminist magazine Sorcières. In turn, the fairy figure watched over queer RadicalFaeries. Tapped into by women and queers – belittled subjects that, like fantasy itself, do not fit within the patriarchal vision of the world – the sphere of what is discredited as false may become space of freedom and power brimming with potentiality.
During the January Feminist Seminar, we will to consider what kind of possibilities of developing new futures are offered by non-truth. We want to talk about imagined visions that may become mainstays or laboratories of new thoughts and languages as well as reservoirs of alternative forms of life, identity and functioning in the world. We will ask about the role of fantasy in the process of reclaiming – queering and herstorying – the past and criticising the current wrongful and unilateral ways of defining, sensing and narrating the world; the role of saying what cannot be said aloud or cannot be stated in a “rational” language. We also want to enquire about fantastical figures that became tools of emancipation in the hands of women and queers.
