Breguła, Janin, Rajkowska, Mamzeta at „Obscene West. BMW Video Art screening”, Kaunas, LT

Kaunas Artists’ House continues its multi-layered program Obscene West. BMW, which explores reflections of masculinity/ies in the culture of the 90s.

On August 21 at 9 PM, we invite you to a special video art evening featuring a curated selection of works by Polish and Lithuanian artists that reflect on themes of masculinity, power, and tenderness. The program is curated by two curators: renowned Polish contemporary art curator Agnieszka Rayzacher and emerging Lithuanian curator Marija Martinaitytė.

The event is free of charge.

The evening will consist of two parts – showcasing works by Polish and Lithuanian artists who, through personal, cultural, or social lenses, explore how masculinity is constructed and sustained, how it affects both men and women, and how it manifests in our daily lives.

Agnieszka Rayzacher presents a personal narrative on the construct of masculinity in contemporary society through the works of six female artists. The selected video pieces examine a variety of aspects of masculinity – from the cult of physical strength and social hierarchies to tenderness, intellectual authority, and everyday symbols such as cars or the father figure. The first part of the program will feature:

▞ Karolina Breguła – Ah Professor, 6 min.

▞ Anna Niesterowicz – 07 zgłoś się, 8 min. 12 sec.

▞ Katarzyna Górna – Sumo, Walka trwa, 5 min.

▞ Zuzanna Janin – Fight, 9 min.

▞ Joanna Rajkowska – My Father Never Touched Me Like That, 11 min.

▞ Monika Mamzeta – Extra Safe, 5 min.

Films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles.
