Trup radości to wspólna wystawa łódzkich artystów Anny Marii Łuczak, Wiktora Polaka i Joanny Szumacher. Na wystawie artyści mierzą się z mirażami, obietnicami i oczekiwaniami szczęścia oraz spełnienia, które zdają się być na wyciągnięcie ręki, a także z poczuciem wyobcowania i samotności. Każda z przedstawionych historii dotyczy braku radości, każdy z artystów snuje swoją opowieść związaną z tym tematem. Jak sami piszą: “Przygotowane projekty traktują o spędzaniu życia w samotności, braku spełnienia. To opowieści dotyczące pojedynczych osób, ale i społeczeństwa. W świecie pełnym pozorów, na jego powierzchni, unoszą się burzyny złudzeń. Nie ma szczęścia i radości, są ich miraże. Każda z historii to podróż derealizacji. Tani dramat, „wspaniały świat”, którego nie ma. Jest natomiast otaczająca nas rzeczywistość, z której regułami trzeba się godzić. Ludzkie automaty i maszyny w zrealizowanym ideale powszechnej szczęśliwości. Mimo pozornej radości, krzywa niespełniania ciąży w dół. Powroty i podróże w przyszłość, gdzie każdy uśmiech jest zawsze lekko fałszywy, pozorny, wymuszony. W każdej historii zgoda na taki świat jest okupiona przegraną i rozczarowaniem. Poddaniem się i kapitulacją”.
Anna Maria Łuczak o swojej pracy: “W swojej nowej instalacji czerpię z estetyki tutoriali kosmetycznych dostępnych na YouTube, pragnąc pokazać jednostkę w szerszym kontekście aktualnych wydarzeń społeczno-historycznych”.
Wiktor Polak o swoim wideo: “Moim rozumieniem, interpretacją tego tematu jest pustka, chwilowy wzlot, piana złudzeń. Nie usiłuję konstruować klasycznego dramatu. Interesuje mnie bardziej model, postawa człowieka niż konkretne fakty z jego życia.”
Joanna Szumacher o swojej pracy: “Histora, którą chcę opowiedzieć jest dość prosta. Opiera się na starym filmie Frau im mond, czyli Kobieta na księżycu, lecz jest jedynie luźnym nawiązaniem do tej historii poprzez wykorzystanie motywu podróży, kadrów z tego filmu i jego czarno-białej estetyki. Cały projekt oscyluje wokół tematu samotnej podróży na Księżyc. Konstruuję fikcyjną sytuację kobiety, która udała się w taką podróż i z niej wróciła. Jest opowieścią o samotności, melancholii, trudności w przystosowaniu się, trudzie podróży. Na potrzeby wystawy stworzone zostały zdjęcia oparte na kadrach z filmu Frau im mond oraz wydana książka-dziennik z podróży. W galerii prezentowane są również artefakty przywiezione z podróży tj. dźwięki, piasek, model rakiety.”

The Corpse of Joy
The Corpse of Joy is a group exhibition comprising the works of three Łódź-based artists, Anna Maria Łuczak, Wiktor Polak, and Joanna Szumacher. The exhibition shows the artists battling the mirages, promises, and expectations of happiness and fulfillment, which seem to be at hand, while at the same time facing the feeling of alienation and loneliness. Each of the stories on show concerns joylessness, each artist weaves a story which to this subject. As they themselves declare, ‘The projects we have prepared speak of spending one’s life alone, of the lack of fulfillment. These stories touch upon specific individuals, but also on the society more broadly. In a world governed by appearances, the scum of impressions floats on the surface. There is no happiness or joy, there are only chimeras. Each of the stories is a flight of derealisation; a cheap drama, ‘a wonderful world,’ which does not exist. What does exist is the reality around us, the reality whose rules we have to abide by; human automatons and machines living the ideal of shared happiness that has come fruition. Despite the apparent joy, the fulfillment curve tends downwards. The returns and journeys take us to the future, in which every smile is always slightly deceitful, superficial, and forced. In each story, the acceptance of such a world leads to defeat and disappointment, surrender and capitulation.’
Anna Maria Łuczak about her work: ‘In my new installation I am borrowing from the aesthetics of YouTube cosmetic tutorials, willing to show an individual against a wider context of historical and current events.’
Wiktor Polak on his work: ‘My understanding, my interpretation of this subject is an emptiness, a quick rise, a foam of delusions. I am not trying to construct a classical drama. I am interested in the model of human behaviour rather than concrete facts from a person’s life.’
Joanna Szumacher on her work: ‘The story I want to tell is fairly simple. It is based the an old film, Frau im mond, or Woman in the Moon, yet it only forms a loose link with its plot through the use of the theme of the journey, a few stills from the movie, and its black-and-white aesthetic. The whole project revolves around the idea of a lonely journey to the Moon. It tells a fictional tale of a woman, who embarked on such a journey and came back. It is a story of loneliness, melancholy, the difficulty of adaptation, the vicissitudes of travel. The photographs based on the stills from Frau im mond and a travel log in the form of a book were produced specifically for the present exhibition. The gallery will also exhibit artefacts brought back from the journey, namely, sounds, sand, and a model spaceship.’
